Optimum local / optimum global. Un optimum local est une décision qui paraît rationnelle dans un périmètre étroit : elle minimise l’effort immédiat, maximise le gain proche ou résout le problème présent. Mais ce qui est optimal localement peut dégrader le système qui rend les gains futurs possibles : réputation, confiance, compétence, options, relations, etc.. L’optimum global consiste à élargir le cadre d’évaluation : non pas “qu’est-ce qui marche maintenant ?”, mais “qu’est-ce qui reste optimal une fois intégrés les effets différés, les répétitions et les réactions des autres ?”. Ce modèle aide à voir qu’une stratégie peut être intelligente à court terme et perdante à l’échelle du jeu entier : le bon calcul n’est pas seulement celui qui gagne le coup, mais celui qui préserve la capacité à continuer de gagner.

A mental model
Local optimum / global optimum.
A local optimum is a decision that appears rational within a narrow frame: it minimizes immediate effort, maximizes near-term gain, or solves the present problem. But what is locally optimal can degrade the system that makes future gains possible: reputation, trust, competence, options, relationships, social capital. The global optimum consists in widening the frame of evaluation: not “what works now?”, but “what remains optimal once delayed effects, repetition, and others’ reactions are taken into account?”. This model helps reveal how a strategy can be smart in the short term and losing at the scale of the whole game: the right calculation is not only the one that wins the move, but the one that preserves the ability to keep winning.
