Momentum. Puissance (énergie cinétique) accumulée par un système en mouvement. Une force initiale, parfois difficile à enclencher, peut s’amplifier naturellement en un cycle auto-renforçant — les premiers résultats (succès, par exemple) en amènant d’autres. Une fois créé, le momentum demande bien moins d’effort pour le maintenir que celui nécessaire pour le lancer car ce qui est en mouvement tend à rester en mouvement. Ainsi, une bonne habitude difficile à démarrer devient facile à entretenir grâce au momentum. Autre illustration: en finance, un momentum haussier désigne la tendance d’un cours à continuer de croître lorsqu’il est déjà en hausse (soit à suivre la ligne de moindre résistance).

A mental model
Momentum. Power (kinetic energy) accumulated by a system in motion. An initial force, sometimes difficult to trigger, can naturally amplify into a self-reinforcing cycle — the first results (success, for example) leading to others. Once created, momentum requires much less effort to maintain than what was necessary to launch it because what is in motion tends to stay in motion. Thus, a good habit that is difficult to start becomes easy to maintain thanks to momentum. Another illustration: in finance, bullish momentum refers to the tendency of a price to continue rising when it is already on the upswing (i.e., to follow the path of least resistance).
